African American women are among the most educated and entrepreneurially driven populations in the country. And yet — because of systemic barriers, bias, wage gaps, and the profound absence of professional spaces that were built with Black women in mind — that talent, ambition, and drive too often goes unsupported, undercompensated, or unrealized. Camp Robin’s Professional Development and Career Support program exists to change that equation. Whether you are entering the workforce, navigating a career pivot, growing your own business, or simply trying to figure out your next move, this program meets you where you are — and helps you build toward where you deserve to be.


Why This Matters

Black women in Metro Detroit — and across the country — face a labor market that was not designed for them. The racial wage gap, the compounding effects of caregiving responsibilities on career trajectories, the ‘prove it again’ culture in professional environments, and the near-total absence of Black women in executive leadership all tell the same story: the system was not built with us in mind. At the same time, Black women launch businesses at a higher rate than any other demographic in the United States — and still receive less than 1% of venture capital funding. The ambition is there. The talent is there. What has been missing is access, infrastructure, and a community of people invested in seeing Black women win professionally. That is what Camp Robin provides.


What We Offer

  • Resume, LinkedIn & Interview Coaching: One-on-one and group coaching sessions covering resume writing, LinkedIn profile optimization, interview preparation, salary negotiation, and personal branding — all tailored to the realities Black women face in hiring processes.
  • Career Pivoting & Exploration: Structured support for women who are ready to change direction professionally — including skills assessment, industry exploration, informational interview frameworks, and coaching to build confidence in the transition.
  • Mentorship Matching: Connection to a curated network of Black women professionals and executives in Metro Detroit and beyond who serve as mentors, thought partners, and advocates — offering the kind of access and sponsorship that transforms careers.
  • Entrepreneurship Education: Workshops and coaching covering the fundamentals of starting and growing a business: business planning, legal structures, branding, pricing, marketing, and accessing capital — designed specifically for Black women entrepreneurs at every stage.
  • Financial Literacy for Professionals: Sessions on negotiating compensation, managing self-employment income, understanding benefits, building credit as a business owner, and creating financial strategies that support long-term professional goals.
  • Professional Networking & Community: Curated networking events, professional mixers, and community cohorts that connect African American women across industries — because who you know matters, and Black women deserve a network that is actively invested in their success.
  • Workplace Advocacy & Navigation: Education and peer support on navigating workplace discrimination, microaggressions, performance review processes, and workplace conflict — equipping women with language, documentation strategies, and community when the workplace gets hard.


Who This Is For

This program is for the African American woman who is ready to invest in her professional future — whatever that looks like for her. For the woman who has been passed over for a promotion she earned. For the one who left a career to raise children and is ready to re-enter the workforce on her own terms. For the entrepreneur who has a vision but needs a plan. For the college graduate who is just starting out and wants to do it with community behind her. For the professional who is exhausted by code-switching and wants a space where she can simply be herself and grow. Our Model & Partners

Professional Development and Career Support programming is delivered through a combination of Camp Robin-facilitated coaching, partnerships with Black women business owners and executives serving as coaches and mentors, and collaborations with financial institutions, workforce development organizations, and entrepreneurship support networks committed to equitable economic opportunity in Metro Detroit. All programming is grounded in the real, day-to-day professional experiences of African American women — not a generic curriculum that was adapted for us as an afterthought.
