About Us

Camp Robin was born from a deeply personal truth — that African American women are among the most resilient, most burdened, and most underserved populations in America. Our founder, a working mother navigating the invisible weight of caregiving, professional demands, and emotional labor, recognized what so many Black women know but rarely say aloud: we were never given permission to rest. Camp Robin exists to change that.

Named for the quiet wish to not always be Batman — to lay down the cape, even briefly, and simply be — Camp Robin is a Detroit-based nonprofit organization dedicated to equipping, restoring, and empowering African American women through access to mental wellness education, financial literacy, safe housing support, and community. We provide the resources, safe spaces, and human connection that Black women in Metro Detroit and beyond deserve but too often cannot access.

The Problem We're Solving

African American women in Detroit and across the country face a compounding set of challenges that are rarely addressed in an integrated, culturally competent way:

  • Black women are disproportionately affected by chronic stress, anxiety, and burnout, yet face significant barriers to mental health care including cost, stigma, and a lack of culturally responsive providers.
  • Detroit's poverty rate and housing instability disproportionately impact Black women and their families, with domestic violence being a leading driver of housing insecurity.
  • African American women are less likely to have access to financial planning resources, wealth-building education, or professional financial guidance.
  • Black women with ADHD are among the most underdiagnosed and undersupported populations, often navigating systems that were not designed with them in mind.

These challenges do not exist in isolation — they are interconnected, and they compound. Camp Robin addresses them together.

Our Solution

Camp Robin provides programming across five integrated pillars, all designed to meet African American women where they are and walk alongside them toward wholeness:

1. The Annual Retreat — Our flagship program, launching summer 2027, is an immersive 3-day retreat for African American women in the Metro Detroit area. The retreat offers three tracks — Restore (mind and body wellness), Rebuild(financial literacy and independence), and Reconnect (community, identity, and sisterhood). The retreat is intentionally intimate (25–50 women per cohort), culturally grounded, and scholarship-accessible to ensure no woman is turned away due to financial barriers.

2. Wellness & Mental Health Education — Psychoeducation workshops, burnout recovery programming, stress management tools, and navigation support connecting women to licensed, culturally competent mental health providers.

3. Domestic Violence Advocacy & Housing — Safe housing navigation, transitional housing assistance, systems advocacy, peer support, and education for women escaping or recovering from domestic violence — delivered in partnership with licensed DV service providers.

4. Substance Use Recovery Support — Recovery coaching, peer mentorship, harm reduction education, and navigation assistance connecting women to licensed treatment programs and community recovery networks.

5. ADHD Support & Empowerment — Executive functioning coaching, peer support groups, psychoeducation, and advocacy for African American women living with ADHD who have historically been overlooked by traditional support systems.
